Biochar for lawns
Our biochar for lawns permanently sequesters carbon and transforms your soils. Our biochar, rock dust and microbial mix is made from pristine Australian woody sources, premium rock dust and other nutrients. This formulation is a fine grade which will not obstruct the growth of existing lawn. It will give you immediate microbial and mineral benefits in the first year and will bring biodynamic benefits in the next and all subsequent years.
Our biochar is the least amount of effort you can expend to permanently transform your soil. More permanent soil carbon than compost, less bulk and weight and perfectly convenient. Just sprinkle on, rake lightly and stand back. The benefits of it will just compound in years to come.
How to apply
Either sprinkle lightly at a rate of one handful per square metre, then add top-dressing sand. If you are starting a new lawn, mix with loam at rate of 4 litres per 50 litres of loam, then use this mix for the top 5 to 10 cm of soil.
Why this fine formulation?
Unlike our other biochars which are graded to 6mm granules, this is a fine sub-1mm granule mix with the colour and texture of ground coffee. This ensures that the granules are suitable for top-dressing lawns and are not going to impede the blades. Place it under your top-dressing sand then rake and water in as normal.
In addition this fine powder is also the best choice for root crops growing in sandy soils or where seedlings are germinating. In these situations larger grit is unwelcome and fine grains are the better choice.
For carrots and other root crops, work into the top 5 centimetres of soil to make up 10% of soil volume. This will require an application rate of 4 litres per square metre of soil.
If you are improving sandy soils and you don’t need the finer texture, please consider our regular sandy soil mix.. Because the coarser texture has better moisture reluctance it is less likely to dry out in the extreme conditions often found in sandy soils.
